YMLSF FCT Branch Hosts Landmark Biorisk Management Training 2025 in Abuja.

The Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF), FCT Branch, has successfully concluded its Biorisk Management Training 2025, held from May 28th to 29th at the National Biosafety Training Center, MLSCN House, Durumi, Abuja. With the theme “Equipping Professionals for Biorisk Leadership and Global Health Security,” the training convened 40 professionals from across sectors for two intensive days of knowledge-sharing, practical sessions, and strategic dialogue.

The training aimed to empower frontline health professionals with the critical skills and insights required to manage biological risks, strengthen laboratory systems, and uphold biosafety and biosecurity standards in alignment with global health priorities.

Participants benefitted from expert facilitation by leaders of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA):
Dr. Kingsley Chinedum Ochei – Senior Advisor in Laboratory Systems & Biorisk Management, with national and global experience in quality systems and biosafety policy integration.

Dr. Stella Ngozi Udo – Regional expert in laboratory governance and biosafety frameworks, bridging policy with field application.

Mr. Ibiang Livinus – Senior Biorisk Management and Health Systems Strengthening Specialist, with over 22 years of strategic public health leadership.

A major highlight of the training was the presence of the Acting Registrar/CEO of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr. Donald Ofili, who reaffirmed national support for such capacity-building initiatives: “You cannot talk about biosafety without talking about laboratory strengthening — they are intertwined. The MLSCN is fully in support of biorisk programs and the capacity building of young medical laboratory scientists.”
