The Northern Governors Forum has condemned the killing of local rice farmers in Zabarmari, near Maduguri, Borno State by members of the Boko Haram insurgents.
This was released in a statement by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong who said the entire Nation is deeply saddened over the killing of the innocent rice farmers where they earn their living.
He said the sad incident is a great setback to the efforts of the Nation to attain the desired domestic sufficiency in rice production as well as improving food security.
He added that the Northern Governors Forum has consistently worked with the Federal Government, necessary security agencies and other local support groups to ensure farmers are protected in order to enable them carry out their farming activities without fear of been killed.
The Governor said despite this condemnable act, the Forum will not stop in its support to security agencies at all level to deal decisively with the terrorists and other criminals agents disturbing the peace of the region.
Governor Lalong commiserate with the families of the deceased farmers as well as the people and Government of Borno State over the unfortunate incident.
